Lore MCP

A stateless MCP server that gives AI agents team-shared lore including area context documents, session captures, and structured docs (ADRs, logs, TODOs, plans) via the lore-api GraphQL endpoint.

Caution. Specific findings reduced this grade. They are listed on the page. Grades reflect the full trust pyramid: code, verification depth, and reputation. New projects cap at C until adoption is earned.

lore_capture

Append a session capture to an area by path or id. Creates the area node (a folder) if it does not exist yet, so a brand-new/empty project bootstraps on first capture. Append-only; triggers server-side context synthesis.

lore_context

Fetch the derived area context document at a path (a context-kind node).

lore_delete

Delete a node (and its children) by path or id. Irreversible — use to clean up mistaken or stale nodes.

lore_move

Move or rename a node to a new path (and optionally a new parent), by path or id. Cascades child paths.

lore_projects

List the projects in the API token's organization (the org is fixed by the token). Returns the org name and each project's slug + name. Use this to pick or confirm which project a repo should be linked to (see /lore:init).

lore_create_project

Create a new project in the API token's organization. Provide a name; the slug is derived from the name (lowercase, dashes) unless you pass an explicit slug. Returns the created project's slug + name. Used by /lore:init when the user chooses to create a new project.

lore_search

Search nodes in a project by path substring (best-effort).

lore_start

Load the team briefing for a project: the area context docs plus recent session captures. The team /start.

lore_tree

List the folder/doc tree for a project. Optionally scope by parent node or kind.

// environment variables
To run this server yourself, you supply these values. They go in your own MCP client configuration and stay on your machine. The secret label means the value is sensitive, not that the server mishandles it.
🔐 secretLORE_API_TOKENThe lore_sk_... API token. Sent as Authorization: Bearer <token>. The token scopes the org server-side, so no org header is needed.

Tool annotations

No tools have read-only/destructive annotations

Add readOnlyHint or destructiveHint annotations to every tool so hosts can warn users before invoking.

All four hints declared on every tool

9/9 tools missing one or more hints — lore_capture (missing: readOnlyHint, destructiveHint, idempotentHint, openWorldHint); lore_context (missing: readOnlyHint, destructiveHint, idempotentHint, openWorldHint); lore_delete (missing: readOnlyHint, destructiveHint, idempotentHint, openWorldHint), +6 more. OpenAI's directory rejects tools where any of the four hints are missing or non-boolean.

For every tool, set all four hints (readOnlyHint, destructiveHint, idempotentHint, openWorldHint) to explicit true/false values that match the handler’s actual behaviour.

Tool inputs are validated

8/9 tool handlers declare input schemas (89%)

Declare an inputSchema with zod/joi/yup on every tool definition.

Tool handlers catch errors

Only 0/9 tool handlers wrap calls in try/catch (0%)

Wrap each tool handler body in try/catch and return a structured error response.

License file

No license file

Add a LICENSE file (MIT, Apache-2.0, etc.).

Tests exist

No test files found

Add tests that exercise each declared tool.

Production dependencies are patched

0 critical, 3 high severity in production deps — @modelcontextprotocol/sdk@1.12.0 (high), @modelcontextprotocol/sdk@1.12.0 (high)

Run npm audit fix, or upgrade the affected packages to a non-vulnerable version.

// full audit trail
The findings above are the summary. The full trail, every check we ran, each deduction, the network hosts observed and the dependency advisories, goes to verified publishers, along with an alert whenever a new one lands. Verified publishers can also review each finding and dispute it in one click. Publisher corrections have sharpened several of our checks this month, because the maintainer knows the codebase better than any scanner.
// improvement guidance — verified publishers only
We have 7 concrete improvements we can share with the publisher of this MCP. Each comes with specific guidance to raise the trust score.
